Make room before opening
Use a clean, dry surface with enough space to sort cards. Keep drinks away and handle cards with clean, dry hands. Prepare appropriately sized sleeves before you open packs so cards do not sit loose while you find supplies.
Handle edges gently and avoid forcing a card into a tight holder. A sleeve helps limit direct handling; a rigid outer holder can add support during storage or transport. Check that the card is seated safely before closing any case.
Protect against pressure and the environment
Choose card-safe storage materials and follow the holder manufacturer's instructions. Keep binders from becoming overfilled, and avoid pressure from rings or stacked objects. Store the collection away from direct sunlight, moisture, and large temperature changes.
For valuable or fragile items, ask a specialist about suitable storage. These are general collecting habits, not restoration instructions. Do not clean, polish, or flatten a card in an attempt to improve a grade.
Keep useful records
Photograph both sides when you acquire a card and record what you paid, where it came from, and any condition notes. This helps distinguish your copy from a generic catalog entry later.
Use your CardboardDex binder to organize cards visually, but keep important purchase records separately. The binder lives in this browser, so clearing site storage can remove your saved organization.
